Century Arms WASR-10 built by Cugir

  • WASR-10.jpg
The WASR-10 and WASR-10/63 are Romanian built clones of the Pistol Mitralieră model 1963 (PM md. 63) AKM. They are built in the Cugir Arsenal in Romania and imported by Century Arms. They are imported with single stack mag well, upon reaching the USA, the mag wells are widened to accept standard double stack AK magazines. The WASR-10, modified for double stack magazines, is one of the most popular AKM variants currently imported and sold in the United States. WASR-10s are known for their cold hammer forged, and chrome lined barrels. They are also known for their forged trunnions and bolt carriers. While once looked down upon, recent reviews, torture tests and write ups by Battlefield Las Vegas and Rob Ski from AK Operators Union have put the WASRs in great demand. They are known for their reliability and relatively low cost.

I bought a WASR shortly after the gun ban sunset in '05. It was OK. Rifle was a bit canted, I guess reading the other reviews that quality has improved. The early WASRs were pretty bad when it came to fit and finish, and me and my buddy both had canted parts on ours. Still, I was able to zero it and it ran like a chevy. Never jammed on me.

Sold it years ago and bought an Arsenal.

I've owned a few WASRs, and I picked up a new one in 2015. Very impressed how the fit and finish have been improved since the early 2000s. My rifle has no canted sights or gas tubes, cants which the earlier wasrs were well known for. The rifle is accurate out to 200 yards with just irons and I have yet to have a malfunction. Of course I've yet to have a malfunction with any WASR.

I bought this WASR years ago at a gun show. Slightly canted sights, but nothing that couldn't be sighted in. I have 8,000 rounds down the pipe without a single issue. This rifle is a tank. I only buy com-bloc after my disaster with IO. I highly recommend this rifle to anyone who wants an AK. Don't buy American made when it comes to an AK.
